As a kid, did you ever attend a slumber party?
“We’re gonna stay up all night!”
Of course very few, if any, managed to stay up all night. Those who managed it were usually cranky by morning and more than a little peeved at their cohorts who couldn’t make it. The “winners” spent a long, lonely night fighting off the urge to close their eyes for just a moment. A little company would have gone a long way to both staying awake and helping the time pass.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.Psalm 121:3-4 (ESV)
God doesn’t sleep. Ever. He’s that powerhouse of a kid who manages to stay up all night and still have the energy to go to the park and play ball the next morning. He’s the one by your side keeping you company through the night and watching over you when your eyes drift shut (only for a few seconds, of course).
To get Him on your side,a ll you have to do is show up at the slumber party – we’re all invited. When you arrive, He’s there to greet you. He’s got your spot on the floor picked out right beside His. He’ll sit up with you as long as you stay awake and watch over you when you fall asleep.
God is awake even when we are not. The Lord is your keeper. He who doesn’t sleep is well able to watch over you. He will keep you from all evil. So long as we remain in His shadow, we are His and He is ours.
