Check it out

There was one lesson I was taught in Bible school over and over and over again that I believe every person claiming to be a Christian should be aware of.

Don’t just believe whatever you hear. Check it out. Seek the truth for yourself.

This one lesson could change the face of Christianity in the west. If, instead of listening to what other people say, we turned to the Word of God, we might find ourselves unified instead of divided. We may find the Church prospering instead of in need. We’d be growing instead of trying to find ways to get people in our seats.

It’s not our job as the Church to sound nice or make as many people as possible feel comfortable. It is our mission not only to know, but to proclaim the Truth.

Not all people who sound religious are really godly. They may refer to me as ‘Lord,’ but they still won’t enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they obey my Father in heaven.

Matthew 7:21 (NLT)

The next time you hear someone talking about what God says, check it out for yourself. Don’t take their word for it. Take God’s Word. His is the only one that really matters.

Daily Bible reading: Genesis 20-22, Matthew 7
